AUT ME Building – Mod Quad
Client: Auckland University of Technology (AUT)
Construction Start: October 2014
Construction Finish: February 2015
Duration: 4 months
Project Partners: AUT, Hargrave, Arrow International Ltd / Jasmax / Beca / RLB
Growth at AUT’s South Campus meant that temporary accommodation was going to be needed for teaching space and staff space before the new MH building is to be completed for the opening of the 2017 First Semester, so a fast tracked project was commissioned to create modular space, that when the time comes could be removed and relocated.
The Modular Quadrant, known as the ‘ModQuad’ provided 1600m2 of new floor area for AUT, with design and construction completed in just 9 months. In order to achieve this a design-build solution for services was opted for along with a fast-track construction programme, and the ModQuad was open for Semester 1, 2015.
- The speed the project required to be completed on time meant fast decision making and little time for Value Engineering.
- Ground conditions were less than favourable requiring a change in piling methodology and a slow start to the project.
- Fit-out Scope having to be defined as the construction progressed
